Why we are pausing OmniSalsa and Salsa & Guac

Dear Omni Community,

It’s with gratitude and bittersweetness that we announce the indefinite pause of OmniSalsa and Salsa & Guac as of August 31st. In an effort to remain fully transparent to our community, we want to share publicly how we came to this difficult decision.

In September 2022, Omni took over the lease for our first studio space at 4834 Telegraph Ave in Oakland from Flying Studios. We hypothesized that the space on Telegraph could be the place that Omni would call home long-term, and the Omni team put in herculean efforts to make this outcome financially possible. One of those efforts was investing in new programs of different dance genres, such as West Coast Swing and Salsa.

Omni’s recent move to Artthaus has allowed the Director team the right circumstances to critically assess the community’s need for Salsa programs. We are truly happy to see so many thriving programs outside of Omni in the East Bay that are currently meeting the demand for high quality Salsa classes & parties. So, it is with great joy that we encourage all of our OmniSalsa students to continue their dance journeys with the many strong instructors in the East Bay, while Omni reinvests in its Zouk & Swing programs. When the time and demand is right, Omni looks forward to reconsidering its return to Salsa programming.

In the meantime, we are supporting our OmniSalsa students by completing their August cycle with enthusiasm and providing them resources for where and how they may continue their dance journey after the cycle is over. These decisions are not easy, but we sincerely believe this is the best course of action for everyone. Thank you for being part of our community, and we hope to see everyone dancing at Omni soon!

With love,

Julie, Olivia, and Imaan
