A lot of changes are happening this month at Omni. This blog summarizes them for you.

1. OmniZouk moving to 2 days

Since we expanded our curriculum in the new year, OmniZouk classes have grown significantly and we’re now exceeding the capacity of our studio space on a more regular basis.

We are concerned about the safety of our students, especially when we run our weekly practicas, and overflow rooms at Artthaus are not consistently available.

As such, we have decided to split our OmniZouk classes into two days.

We evaluated data from weekly student availability, instructor availability, and Director availability and determined that the best schedule is as follows:

Mondays
6:30pm - 7:25pm: Level 3
7:30pm - 8:25pm: Level 2
8:30pm - 9:25pm: Level 1
8:30pm - 9:25pm: Foundational Drills
9:30pm - 11:00pm: Practica

Thursdays
6:30pm - 7:25pm: Level 5
7:30pm - 8:25pm: Level 4
8:30pm - 9:25pm: Head Movement Drills
9:30pm - 12:00am: Weekly Social

This will go into effect starting the first week of April.

We have communicated this to the B2Z team (whose classes in SF are also no Mondays) earlier this week. We know that there is a conflict between our two nights, but we predict it will be minimal given that most beginner students (B2Z and Omni L1-3) don't travel across the Bay Bridge for classes.

If you have feedback on this change, please let us know via our anonymous feedback form.

FAQ

“If I have a Track Pass, will I need to pay additionally to attend both the Practica and Social?”

  • No. For the time being to reduce complexity and encourage attendance on both Mondays and Thursdays, both Practica and Social will be included in a single Track Pass.

2. Your only opportunity to learn Zouk from the famed Julinha

We are proud to be hosting one of Germany’s finest instructors, Julia “Julinha” Johann’s first teaching tour in the USA.

This also marks the first ETF programming workshop: Zouk Foundations Conditioning. Join us for 1.5 hours whether you’re a leader, follower, or even a switch dancer - we are so excited to welcome ALL dancers!

You’ll also have the chance to jam out to sets recorded specially for this event by your favorite femme Zouk DJs:

  • DJ Tega from Seattle, USA

  • DJ Rhinestone from DC, USA

  • DJ Beija-Flor from Paris, France

3. OmniSwing Level 1 no longer drop-in starting April

After 2 months of piloting drop-in classes for OmniSwing's Level 1 program, we have decided to revert it back to a month-long Track model with only the first week being drop-in.

We learned a lot from trying a drop-in level 1, but have found the month long progressive model to be more conducive to student learning.

4. OmniZouk Study Groups postponed to April.

Due to OmniZouk Study Groups are postponed to April 27th.

Stay tuned for more details through the Facebook Event Page!

5. Give us feedback on Omni's first online course videos!

Omni is in the middle of production of its first online course, specifically covering OmniZouk's Level 1 content.

The course will be broken into two major types of videos: Explanations and Guided Practices.

We've created a first version of an Explanation video and Guided Practice video for one of the earliest concepts that is taught, the Semi-Closed Position.

Explanation

Guided Practice

We'd like your feedback on it! Feel free to provide it using our anonymous feedback form.

Feedback will be accepted up through Monday, March 25th.
